Wicklow County Council is running a mattress amnesty this autumn: a chance to get rid of an old mattress for free instead of paying the usual bulky-waste charge. The nearest date for us is Saturday 3 October at the Eco Park, The Murrough, Wicklow (A67 PW71), open 9am to 4pm — about ten minutes down the road.
The important bit: pre-booking is mandatory. Mattresses will not be accepted on the day without a booking, so turning up on spec means a wasted trip.
The dates
- Saturday 3 October — Eco Park, The Murrough, Wicklow — 09:00–16:00
- Friday 25 September — Rampere Recycling Centre, Baltinglass — 10:00–15:00
- Saturday 26 September — Rampere Recycling Centre, Baltinglass — 10:00–13:00
The two Baltinglass dates are the far side of the county — roughly 45 minutes inland — so the Murrough date is the practical one for Hawk's Bay.
The conditions
The council has been quite specific about what will and won't be accepted:
- Private households only — no commercial vehicles.
- Maximum four mattresses per vehicle or household.
- Mattresses only — no other bulky waste. Bed frames, bases and divans are not part of the amnesty.
- Only at the locations and on the dates listed above.
How to book
The booking links are published through Wicklow County Council's social channels — they're linked from the bio on the council's Instagram and Facebook pages rather than sitting on a fixed page on wicklow.ie. If you can't find the form, queries can be emailed to env@wicklowcoco.ie.
What this means for you
- Book first, then load the car. No booking, no drop-off — this is the one thing worth getting right.
- Ask a neighbour before you go. Four mattresses per vehicle is a generous allowance, and a shared run saves somebody else a separate trip.

- If you miss it, it does come round again. The council has run mattress amnesties most years, though not always at the same centres.
