Free property marking event in Kilcoole, 24–25 October

Wicklow County Council and the Local Community Safety Partnership are running a free property marking event at Kilcoole Community Centre on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October — places are limited, so register in advance.

A free property marking event is coming to Kilcoole Community Centre on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October, run by Wicklow County Council's Local Community Safety Partnership (LCSP) together with Property Marking Ireland and An Garda Síochána. Places are limited, so you'll need to register in advance.

What is property marking?

Property marking makes valuable items easy to identify. Each item is marked with a permanent code based on your Eircode, which can be traced back to you, and gets a sticker to show it's been done. That makes marked items less attractive to thieves and much easier to return to you if they're stolen and recovered.

The council's list of items to bring includes:

  • Power tools
  • Bicycles
  • Lawnmowers
  • Strimmers
  • Chainsaws
  • Ladders
  • Quads
  • Garden machinery

The details

  • When: Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October
  • Where: Kilcoole Community Centre, Kilcoole
  • Cost: Free
  • Registration: Required in advance — places are limited (register here)
  • What to bring: The items you'd like marked, plus something with your Eircode on it, such as a bill or a letter

What this means for you

If you've got bikes, garden tools or other equipment sitting in a shed or garage, this is a quick, free way to make them harder to sell on and easier to recover. Register through the link above before you go, and bring proof of your Eircode on the day.
