Local Property Tax in Wicklow stays the same for 2027

Wicklow County Council voted on Friday 9 October to keep the Local Property Tax rate for 2027 the same as 2026, so Hawk's Bay households won't pay more next year.

Your Local Property Tax (LPT) bill won't go up in 2027. At their meeting on Friday 9 October, Wicklow county councillors voted to keep next year's LPT rate the same as this year's. In practice, every household in the county, Hawk's Bay included, pays the same LPT in 2027 as it does in 2026.

What the councillors decided

The basic LPT rate is set nationally, but each council can move its own area's rate up or down by as much as 15%. In 2026 Wicklow charged 6% above the national rate, and councillors voted to keep that 6% increase for 2027. They didn't raise it any further, and they didn't cut it.

Where the money goes

LPT is collected by Revenue but goes to the council. It pays for local services we use every day, including:

  • public lighting and road maintenance
  • libraries
  • fire services
  • street cleaning and recycling services
  • burial grounds
  • tourism development

What this means for you

  • Most households don't need to do anything. If you already pay LPT by direct debit, salary deduction or another set arrangement, that normally carries on into the new year unless you change it.
  • Expect the same amount. If you're budgeting for 2027, plan on the same LPT payment as this year.
