The overnight resurfacing on the M11 southbound has moved to Phase 2: Junction 16 (Rathnew / Wicklow Town) to Junction 18 (Wicklow South / Redcross). These closures run from Monday 12 to Saturday 17 October, 21:00 to 06:00, Monday to Friday nights.
That leaves tonight (Wednesday), Thursday and Friday as the last scheduled nights this week. The Friday closure should run until 06:00 on Saturday morning.
The good news for getting home
This week's notice lists only the stretch south of Junction 16. If you're driving home from Dublin after 9pm, the Junction 13 to 16 section, which sent everyone down the R761 through Ashford in September, isn't on this week's list. The Council hasn't explicitly said Phase 1 is finished, so watch for signs on the night. Based on the notice, though, you should be able to stay on the motorway to Junction 16 and come off for Rathnew as normal.
Heading south after 9pm?
If you're going towards Arklow or Wexford, or using the Wicklow South exit, the signed diversion is:
- Exit the M11 southbound at Junction 16; at the roundabout take the 1st exit onto the R772.
- Follow the R772 for 900m; at the roundabout take the 2nd exit to stay on the R772.
- Follow the R772 for 1.6km; at the roundabout take the 2nd exit to stay on the R772.
- Follow the R772 for 300m; at the roundabout take the 2nd exit to rejoin the M11 southbound at Junction 18.
The Council says junctions along the way will be closed as required during the works, so don't count on getting on or off the motorway between Junctions 16 and 18 at night.
What this means for you
- Coming home from Dublin at night: this week's works shouldn't affect you, but keep an eye out for signs.
- Driving south after 9pm, Wednesday to Friday: take the R772 diversion and allow a few extra minutes.
- Daytime and northbound driving aren't mentioned in the notice.
The wider programme of M11 southbound night closures still runs until Friday 13 November. See our earlier article for the full background, and check the Council's weekly notices for the coming weeks.
