Scam texts posing as Panda: don't click update-panda.com
Panda, the waste collection company, has posted a fraud alert on its website about fake text messages asking customers to update their details via update-panda.com. That link is not Panda's. Don't click it and don't enter any personal information.
What to look out for
- A text that claims to be from Panda and asks you to "update your details" through a link.
- The web address update-panda.com. Panda's real website is panda.ie.
What to do
- Don't click the link in the text, and don't reply to it.
- Don't enter personal or payment details on any site you reach from a text like this.
- If you're unsure whether a message is genuine, contact Panda directly through its official channels only. Don't use any number or link from the text itself. The contact options are on Panda's contact page.
- If you already clicked, close the page straight away without entering anything. If you did enter details, contact your bank or card provider promptly.
What this means for you
Even if Panda isn't your bin provider, scammers send these texts widely, so you may get one anyway. Delete it. If a neighbour mentions getting one, pass this on.
