Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange rain warning for Wicklow, Dublin and Wexford as Storm Austen brings intense rain overnight. Wicklow County Council shared the alert this week.
When: 2am to 8am, Friday 23 October 2026
A wider Status Yellow rain and wind warning for Leinster and Munster also runs from 7pm on Thursday 22 October until 10am on Friday.
What to expect
- Flooding is expected. Met Éireann says 40–60mm of rain is possible in the orange warning areas. Fallen leaves blocking drains make surface flooding more likely.
- Very difficult travelling conditions, especially around the Friday morning commute.
- Disruption and delays to public transport, both rail and bus.
- Trees are still in full leaf, so watch out for fallen branches and debris.
Looking after yourself and your neighbours
- Don't drive or walk through flood water. It's often deeper and faster than it looks.
- Leave extra time for any journey on Friday morning, or put it off if you can.
- Check your travel before you head out, and check on older or vulnerable neighbours.
- If it's safe to do so, clear leaves from drains and gullies near your home before the rain arrives on Thursday evening.
Met Éireann says there will be no real let-up in the rain over the weekend, so keep an eye on the forecast.
