The recycling centre at the Murrough is still closed until further notice, and two more of the Council's centres are now affected.
Wicklow County Council posted an update on Monday 2 November. Bray is closed until Monday 9 November, and Arklow is closed on Tuesday 3 November. Only Avoca and Rampere are open throughout.
Where each centre stands
- Murrough, Wicklow Town: closed until further notice, because of industrial action and capacity issues. No reopening date has been given.
- Bray (Beechwood Close): closed until Monday 9 November. The Council says reopening on that date is currently scheduled.
- Arklow (Croghan Industrial Estate): closed on Tuesday 3 November because of staffing constraints. Normal service is expected to resume on Wednesday 4 November.
- Avoca (Ballymurtagh): open.
- Rampere, Baltinglass: open.
What the Council is asking
- Keep recycling and bulky waste at home if it's safe to do so, and avoid non-essential trips to recycling centres.
- Don't leave anything at closed centres. Leaving waste outside a closed centre, beside bottle banks or in public areas is fly-tipping, which is illegal and may result in penalties.
What this means for you
- Don't drive down to the Murrough. It's been closed since early October, as we reported at the time, and that hasn't changed.
- Hold on to what you can. If you can store your cardboard, glass and bulky items for a while longer, the Council would rather you did.
- If a trip really can't wait, Arklow is expected to be back from Wednesday. Check the Council's channels before you set off, as things have been changing at short notice.
- Your household bins are a separate service. The Council's update is about its own recycling centres and doesn't mention kerbside collections, which on our estate are run by private bin companies. See our guide to bin collection in Wicklow Town for the details.
We'll post an update here when the Murrough reopens.
