Workshop for community event organisers in Laragh, Saturday 14 November

Co. Wicklow PPN is running a day on planning safe, inclusive community events at Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh, on Saturday 14 November. It's open to residents' associations and anyone organising local events, and you need to register in advance.

If you've ever helped run a summer barbecue, a Halloween trail or a Christmas get-together in the estate, this one might interest you. Co. Wicklow PPN (Public Participation Network) is hosting "Planning Successful Community Events: Learning, Sharing & Connecting" on Saturday 14 November at Brockagh Resource Centre in Laragh. It's aimed at community groups, voluntary organisations and residents' associations, and both first-timers and experienced organisers are welcome.

What's on the day

It's a practical information and sharing day, not an in-depth training course. According to the event listing, it covers:

  • Short sessions from organisations with expertise in event safety, accessibility, working with the local authority, and greener events, plus a risk assessor
  • A group activity working through common event-planning problems
  • Peer sharing and networking with other local groups
  • Pointers to further support, contacts and training

The details

  • When: Saturday 14 November. Registration, tea and coffee from 9.30am, the programme starts at 10am, and the day finishes at 4pm
  • Where: Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh, Glendalough (Eircode A98 D3H1). Free parking
  • Registration: Required in advance through Eventbrite. When you register, the organisers ask which questions or challenges you'd most like covered

What this means for you

If you organise, or would like to organise, events around Hawk's Bay, it's a good chance to get advice on event safety, accessibility and working with the council in one place, and to meet people running similar events around the county. Laragh is roughly 30 minutes' drive from the estate, so it's worth sharing lifts. Register on Eventbrite before the day.
